Bio:
Mestre Fred (Fred Turuka) is the Musical Director for the London School of Samba. He has been involved with many of the samba (and samba fusion) groups in London, including the musical director of Casa da Cachaca, Barking Bateria and Rhythms of Resistance and has been a director at B-Loco, Bloco Vida and Queijo Processado. He has also played and learned from groups such as Verde Vai, Rhythms of the City, Chapa Quente as well as being involved with groups such as Sambattalion and Sambal. Fred was then chosen to tour with the very successful Rio bloco ‘Monobloco’ on their UK tour in 2007 and has delivered workshops across the UK for the last 15 years. Fred has performed with LSS' Madrinha (Godmother) samba school from Rio de Janeiro, Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel at carnaval in 2010, their sister school Unidos de Padre Miguel in 2012 and Sereno de Campo Grande in 2008 as well as delivering samba drumming workshops across the globe as well as good samba vibes.
